Margie Walser Myers

Margie Walser Myers, 95, formerly of Lexington and Asheville, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 on her birthday at Morrison Manor.

A funeral service will be 3:00 pm Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel. Visitation will be from 2-3 pm one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park following the service.

Born on December 10, 1921 in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Zeb Vance Walser, Jr. and Ruth Peace. Margie attended the women’s college in Greensboro and worked as a secretary until her retirement at the age of 65. She loved her family and friends and any dog or cat alive.

She is survived by her children; William S. Myers (Carolyn) of Greenville, NC, David S. Myers (Anne) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Kathryn M. Lewis of Beaumont, TX, William S. Myers, Jr. (Jodie) of Chesapeake, VA, Harris H. Ipock, III of Boston, MA, David Scott Myers, II of Wilmington and Michael Stanley Myers of Laurinburg; and three great grandchildren, Paxton Lewis, John Myers and Elizabeth Myers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Grover Cleveland Myers, Jr. It has been said that the Tarheel Nation was built on their shoulders because of their love for The University of North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  St. David’s Episcopal Church, 506 Azure Ct., Laurinburg, NC 28352 or Scotland Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Prestwick Village, Scottish Pines, Scotland Regional Hospice and Scotland Memorial Hospital.
