Margaret Stewart Pittman, 90, died Saturday, June 25.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Deck Guess. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
She is survived by three daughters, Pat Hanna (Dewey) of Florence, SC, Katherine Cox (Jim) of Rockingham, and Ellen Watts (Dale) of Kernersville; 5 grandchildren, Missy Biggs (Kim) of Columbia, SC, Stewart McKelvey (Julie) of Camden, SC; Cassie Delany (Joe) of Atlanta, Kent Watts (Beth) of Colfax and Magan Gaskins (Logan) of Kernersville; great grandchildren, William McKelvey, Margaret Stewart Biggs, Fletcher Louise Biggs, James and Joseph Delany, and Andrew Gaskins; a special cousin, Marty Pate.
Born May 25, 1921 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Louise Monroe Stewart. She spent her entire life in Scotland County except for the time where she graduated from Montreat High School and attended Montreat College. She later attended Presbyterian Junior College. Margaret married Rufus Earl Pittman who preceded her in death in 1999.
An active member of Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church, she was an Honorary Life Member of the Women of the Church, Elder Emeritus, Treasurer, and Chair of the annual Ingathering. She was also active in local Politics and was a Star recipient of the Democratic Women. Taking pride in her Scottish heritage, she was also a member of Clan Stewart and Clan Monroe.
Margaret was always a very people oriented lady, always giving positive encouragement and helping bring out the best in them. In her spare time she loved going to the beach and spending time with her family.
