Mae Louise Locklear

Mae Louise Locklear, 82, of Rockingham passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at Hospice Haven of Richmond County.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurinburg, officiated by Pastor Tracy Gross.

Born December 29, 1943 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Ervin and Louise McKay Locklear. Mae was a graduate of Pembroke State University with honors, later receiving a Masters and PhD in education. She taught elementary school for approximately 40 years.

She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. Mae shared her God-given gifts and talents at the Calvary Baptist Church where she attended for 52 years.

Mae had a very quiet and reserved personality and loved her family deeply. She was an investor in all the lives that God placed in her life. She loved teaching and also learning, always striving to get her students excited about learning making it fun.

Mae had no children of her own but she treated her nephew and nieces as if they were her children; also, not raising children as a parent she influenced and impacted thousands in her lifetime.

She enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, and music. She was taught herself to play the harpsicord, and writing calligraphy. She was always learning and growing.

Her favorite holiday was Christmas which gave her the opportunity to do the two things she enjoyed; shopping and giving.

Mae’s heart was to give, love, and teach showing us all a picture of Christ.

She will be missed by all and her impact and her memory will forever live in our hearts and lives.

She is survived by her brother, Delton R. Locklear (Sheila); sister, Debra Locklear Radwick; nephew, Michael Locklear (Monica); two nieces, Frances L. Allen (Brad) and Crystal L. Beaman Scott); eight grandnieces; three grandnephews; four great grand nieces and nephews.
