Luther Thomas 'Tom' Buchanan, Iii

Mr. Luther Thomas (Tom) Buchanan, III, of 12421 Appin Road died Monday, August 18, at the North Carolina Veterans Administration Nursing Home in Fayetteville.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel with Rev. Legrande Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Born August 4, 1926 in Laurinburg, he was the son of the late Dr. Luther and Margaret Douglas Buchanan. He was a retired physical education teacher with Scotland County Schools and previously taught in Whiteville. He attended and played football at Duke University and graduated from UNC in Chapel Hill. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, a member of the American Legion and the East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Coates McNeill Buchanan of the home, one step-son; John Howard MacNeill of Wagram, one brother; William Buchanan of Kannapolis, one sister; Frances Buchanan James of Winter Haven, FL, two grandchildren; Wendy Mills of Danville, VA and Tiffany MacNeill of Madison, WI.
