Lula Adelle Adams Cottingham, 90, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2022 at Gibson United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Robin Jones. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.
Born on December 9, 1931 in Scotland County, she was the daughter of the late William King and Pearl Wright Adams. She was a member of Gibson United Methodist Church and loved her church family. She worked many years as co-owner of Cottingham Used Cars in Gibson along with her husband, Emerson. She loved her community and served as commissioner for the town of Gibson for 12 years. For those that knew her well, she loved the Carolina Tarheels, her family, and reading her Bible.
She is survived by her son, Robert Matthew Cottingham of Gibson; her daughter, Emmie Lou C. Grooms of Gibson; her sister, Ila Brown of Bennettsville; her grandchildren, Matthew Liles and wife, Sheila, Adam Liles and Grey Grooms; her great grandchildren, Cassie Liles, Kailey Liles, Mattie Liles, Ragan Liles and Neely Liles; and special friend, Mary Ann. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Emerson Cottingham; brothers, Sim W. Adams, W.K. Adams and Charles Adams; and sisters, Annie Weatherly and Sybil Lumpkin.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2022 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium.
