Louise Lofgren Dunn

October 30, 1923 — May 11, 2010

Louise Lofgren Dunn, 86, passed away Tuesday May 11, 2010 in Laurinburg, NC. She was born in Hallock, MN in October 30, 1923. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, James Ralph Dunn, III.

She is survived by her children, John (Jo) of Little Rock, AR, Mike (Robin) of Greensboro, NC, Laurie (Crawford) Crenshaw of Raleigh, NC, and Scott (Rebecca) of Asheboro, NC, and by nine grandchildren, Katie, Evan, Audrey, Robert, Emily, Molly Crenshaw, Meg Crenshaw, Nash and Ian. She also leaves a sister, Margo Kneip of White Bear Lake, MN.

A voracious reader, puzzler, beach goer, gardner, and lover of music, life and her family, she was gracious to one and all, always, except for that poor plumber near the end. She enjoyed playing the piano, and played the baritone and French horn in her high school band.

She was a staunch Democrat and remained involved until the end. She despised George Bush until the end and probably still does. She believed in the Native American's fight for recognition.

Louise left Minnesota at age 18 to be a medical secretary in the U.S. Surgeon General's office during World War II. She received her RN degree from Johns Hopkins University. Though she stopped nursing after the twins were born, she remained active in many ways. She volunteered for the Red Cross, Democratic Women's Club, the NC Indian Museum, and participated in the Great books class, two bridge clubs, garden club, Tuesday afternoon Book Club, swim class, and aerobics. She loved each minute she spent with her family and was delighted to go anywhere and try most anything.

A memorial service will be held at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium, 305 E Church St., Laurinburg, NC on Saturday May 15 at 6 PM. Visitation to begin at 5 PM.

In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Scotland Co.. PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353 or St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 1700 Dogwood Mile, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
