Louis James Essey

Mr. Louis James Essey, 81, of 1203 Charles Drive died Friday. April 30, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mass of the Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church officiated by Father Kevin Fahey. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

He is survived by two brothers, Albert J. Essey and Phillip M. Essey, Jr. of Laurinburg; a sister, Pauline E. Nofal of Florence, SC.

Born June 8, 1917 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Joseph and Kamelle Bechara Essey. Raised in Maxton, he graduated from Maxton High School and was an Eagle Boy Scout. He then graduated from the University of Notre Dame and entered the US Army in World War II where he served four years in England.

Returning to Maxton, he operated Louis Essey, Inc. and Essey Realty for 45 years. He was also a member of the board of directors of Wachovia Bank & Trust Co.
