Leon Barnes, 78, of Wagram departed this earthly life on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
A funeral service will be held Monday, May 12, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel, officiated by Pastor Ethan Jacobs. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg, with military honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
Born on December 3, 1946, in Robeson County, he was a son of the late Rosie Lee Barnes. Leon enjoyed spending time at home with his wife. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, listening to music, and had a passion for NASCAR. He was an Army Veteran and served from 1968 to 1972 in Japan. He was a dedicated electrician by profession and known for his hard work and commitment. Leon retired from Edward’s Wood Products in August 2020.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Patsy Locklear Barnes, of the home; daughter, Tina Barnes Bowen (Brad) of Southport; son, Leon Barnes, Jr. (Debbie) of Greensboro; step-children, James Cummings of Wagram, Pattie Cummings of Rowland, and Shawn Cummings (Kathy), of Laurinburg; brother, Gene Barnes (Janice) of Maxton; sisters, Portia Byrd (Richard), George Ann Oxendine (Robert), and Faye Jacobs; grandchildren, Zack, Ashley, Ragan, Cashlyn, and Adrianna; seven great-grandchildren; and special cat, “Sunshine”. He is preceded in death by his son, Bryan Barnes; brother, Ted Barnes; and sister, Linda.
