Lawrence Thomas "L. T." Walters, 86, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Multitudes Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Bill" Williams Walters; his son, Pat Walters of Laurinburg; his sisters, Evie Hinson of Laurinburg and Linda Wallace of Gibson; his grandchildren, Thom Walters of Wagram, Rev. Glenn Walters of Ft. Mill, SC, and Kasey Norton of Charlotte; and five great grandchildren – with one more on the way. He was preceded in death by a son, Joey Michael Walters.

Born June 24, 1928 in Gibson, NC he was as a son of the late Earnest and Don Ella Walters. His mother passed when he was a child and he was raised by his step-mother, Myrtle Walters Salmon.

"L. T." entered and served in the US Army and afterward began service with Springfield Mills as a fixer or mechanic. Later he drove for Pilot Freight and even later as a bus driver for the Scotland County Schools.

An inspiring Christian who was always helpful to others, "L.T." would credit his late father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Elsie Mishue Williams, as a major and positive influence in his life along with his wife, Mildred, who is also affectionately known as "Bill." He was formerly active with the Springfield Church of God where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent, and was a charter member of Multitudes. Along with "Bill," he never retired from mentoring and ministry to others.

From late autumn to early spring he was a fan of the Tar Heels in basketball, and from spring to autumn he was a fan of the Atlanta Braves.

Memorials are requested for Multitudes, 15301 Jim Calhoun Rd., Laurinburg, NC 28352.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Multitudes.
