Mr. Lauder Eugene Calhoun, Jr. 67, of 11740 Gibson Road died Saturday, April 14, at his residence following a brief illness.

A Masonic graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hillside Cemetery. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church in the Pines officiated by the Rev. Diane Freelander. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Lambert Calhoun; a son, Douglas Calhoun of Laurinburg; a brother, Pat Calhoun and wife, Sylvia of Charlotte; a sister, Harriet Allen and husband, Elms of Winston-Salem.
Born July 14, 1939 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Lauder E. and Janie Gibson Calhoun. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in animal husbandry, and worked 35 years with the US Department of Agriculture and 5 years with the NC Department of Agriculture helping farmers of Scotland and surrounding counties protect their crops from harmful pests and plants.

Lauder was an active member of the Church in the Pines, formerly serving as treasurer for 15 years and presently serving as an elder. He was a long time member of the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club, having served as president and secretary and was also an active Mason and Shriner.

Lauder was also an avid gardener, and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with family and friends.
