Kelly Muse
Rogers
March 12, 1953 – March 22, 2026
Kelly Muse Rogers, 73, a former commercial video producer, died March 22, after a long illness at Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. A family memorial service will be held in May.
Born and raised in Scotland County, Kelly’s childhood consisted of countless daylight hours playing on the family farm with her sisters, cousins and friends. She developed a lifelong passion for Tar Heel basketball around the age of 10 and, in her teen years, was often the one situated closest to the family television set, loudly cheering the players to victory and dissecting their plays.
Of course, she absolutely had to attend UNC at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures. Her career in advertising, producing television and radio commercials with her longtime business partner and former husband, Jim Rogers, a native of Tabor City, spanned more than two decades. It allowed her to travel extensively, as well as live and work in three of her favorite cities – New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta. She doted on her nieces and nephews as children, relishing the opportunity to play tour guide in the cities where she lived, always arranging special behind-the-scenes tours at studios and landmarks she loved.
Kelly is survived by her sisters, Penelope Muse Abernathy (Harry) of Scotland County and Shaftsbury, Vermont, and Jane Muse Dye (Gary) of New Orleans and Jacksonville, Florida; nephews Peter and Cam Abernathy of Grand Marais and Duluth, Minnesota; niece Anne Wood of New Bern; two grand nieces, Grace and Mabel; grand nephew, Kai; and former husband, business partner and lifelong friend, Jim Rogers of Surfside Beach, SC. She will be interred with her parents, Virginia and Charlie Muse, at old Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to Carolina Fund 000001, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, PO Box 309, Chapel Hill, NC 27514-0309.
Arrangements are being handled by Bumgarner Family Funeral Services and Crematorium.
