Matthews NC – Mary Kathryn Campbell Musselwhite, 83, passed away Friday, November 27, 2015. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:30pm on Friday, December 4 at Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 West John St. in Matthews. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Burial will be in Laurinburg, NC, Kathryn's birthplace, alongside her mother and father. Visitation will precede the burial at 10am on Saturday, December 5 at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurinburg with an 11am graveside service following at Hillside Cemetery.
Born October 17, 1932 in Laurinburg NC, she was the second of three daughters of the late Thomas Nathan and Elizabeth McLean Campbell. Kathryn graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1951 and Flora MacDonald College in 1955. She went on to earn two Master's degrees from Appalachian State University in Piano Performance and in Music Education. She taught piano performance at Gardner-Webb University and music in several NC public schools in addition to offering private lessons and classes wherever she lived. After retiring from teaching in 1997, she moved to Charlotte to be closer to her family. Not one to sit still, she established a music program at the Charlotte Lutheran School where her granddaughters attended and continued offering private instruction until shortly before her death.
Kathryn had a strong work ethic, was passionate about music and loved her family fiercely. She touched many lives and had no realization of the meaningful impact that she left on others. Those who knew her will miss greatly her beautiful smile, her joyous laugh and the love she gave.
She is survived by her daughter, Frances Noblitt (John) of Mint Hill; son, E.M. "Mac" Musselwhite (Jodie) of Matthews; her sister, Josephine "Jo" Marsh of Shelby; her granddaughters, McKenzie Baker of Bethesda, MD, and Anne-Marie Noblitt of Mint Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charlotte Rescue Mission.
