Katherine McMillan Fulton, 83, finished her course in faith on Tuesday, November 1, 2011.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and the Rev.Elizabeth Forester.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Hewitt Fulton; her sons, Hew Fulton and wife, Martha of Laurinburg and Bill Fulton and wife, Melissa of Clinton; her brother, James P. McMillan and wife, Dottie of Laurinburg; her sister, Pat McMillan Butler of Laurinburg and Emily McMillan McCoy of Greenville,SC; her grandchildren, Mary Fulton McKissick and husband, Quinton of Kannapolis, Sam Fulton of Laurinburg, Joe Fulton of Greensboro, Steven Fulton and wife, Ellie of Greensboro, and Matthew Fulton of Boone. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Fairley McMillan, Alex McMillan, Joe McMillan and Mary McMillan McConnell.
Katherine was born April 17, 1928 in Scotland County as a daughter of the late Joseph Archibald and Katie Patterson McMillan. She was raised in the Old Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church community before moving her membership to Laurinburg Presbyterian Church following her marriage to Hewitt.
She was a graduate of Peace College and a member of the first graduating class of women at UNC-Chapel Hill. For many years she served as a sixth grade teacher, most of those years at Covington Street School. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, teaching fraternity.
An active member of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church as long as her health permitted, Katherine was a Sunday school teacher and received the Honorary Life Membership in the Women of the Church.
She was also a volunteer for Hospice of Scotland County.
Memorials are requested for Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W. Church St., Laurinburg, NC 28352.
Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
