Mrs. Katharine Lasater Stearns, 94, of 517 West Boulevard died Monday, October 22, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Ralph Brown. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary S. Tuley of Raeford; a son, Junius "Buck" Stearns, Jr. of North Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren, Lara Harhai, David Stearns, Eric Shaffner, Ted Shaffner, Joseph Shaffner, and John Stearns; three great grandchildren, Rebecca Harhai, Nick Harhai, and Stefan Shaffner.
Born April 4, 1913 in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late David E. and Lou Brown Harrington Lasater and widow of the late Col. Junius S. Stearns. She taught English in public schools, retiring after thirty years while at Laurinburg High School. She was also a long time volunteer for the American Red cross and a circle leader in the First United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 927, Laurinburg, NC 28353.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
