Kary Johnson Barrow

April 16, 1951 — August 9, 2019

On Friday, August 9, 2019, Kary Johnson Barrow, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away at the age of 68.

Kary was born on April 16, 1951 to Burton Keith and Lula Johnson Barrow.  On September 11, 1970, he married the love of his life, Patricia Sirt, and together raised two children, Tracy and Jason.  Kary spent his younger years working for his father, who owned the Ice Plant and BK’s Grocery.  Later he was employed at Galey & Lord in Society Hill, a job he loved until his retirement.  He loved NASCAR, the South Carolina Gamecocks and his family, even the ones who were Clemson fans.

He was active in the Marlboro County Jaycees for many years and coached little league.  He and his wife attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he served as trustee.

Kary had a passion for life and laughter.  He was always ready with an encouraging word, a ready smile and a shoulder to cry on.  He had a heart of gold and a kind and compassionate spirit; he truly never met a stranger.  He lived a life that impacted others and leaves with us many happy memories of warm hugs, practical jokes and a life well lived.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above, many dear friends and family members and his beloved dog, Pookie.

He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Pat of the home, who was his constant companion and caregiver; children, Tracy Parham (Buck) of McColl, SC, Jason Barrow (Ginger) of Hampton, VA; sister-in-laws, Debbie Caudell of Gainesville, GA, Renee Rowe (Dennis) of Bennettsville, SC; five grandchildren, who gave him so much joy, Kara Lee (Chris), Bobby Parker, Alyssa Barrow, Makayla Barrow, and Shelby Barrow; a brother, Kenneth Barrow (Connie) of Bennettsville, SC; his aunt Cathy Johnson; his cousins, Danny Newberry (Patricia) and Darrell Newberry; his mother-in-law, Ethel Sirt; nieces and nephews, Gwen Barrow Starling, Scott Caudell, Kristi Caudell Fricks, Carl Rowe and Crystal Rowe Moreno; and many dear friends and family members.

He will be greatly missed, until we meet again.  Kary’s wishes were to be cremated and no service held.

The family requests that all tributes and donations be sent to Marlboro County EMS, PO Box 123, Bennettsville, SC 29512.

McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium is serving the Barrow family.
