Juanita Herring Perkins
Laurinburg, NC
Mrs. Juanita Herring Perkins, age 79, of Scotia Village, passed away on September 16, 2006.
Mrs. Perkins was born in Wayne County on March 3, 1927, a daughter of the late Marion Leslie and Mary Bizzell Herring. She was librarian in several schools in Scotland Co. before her retirement. Active in Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, she served as Deacon, Elder, Moderator of Presbyterian Women and was recognized with Presbyterian Women Life Membership. She was a member of Pilot Club International for 32 years and was awarded Pilot of the Year in 1981 and Pilot Sweetheart in 1991. Her special contribution was to Call Light Project. She and her husband installed many of these units allowing disabled persons in Scotland Co. to remain in their home. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was a former member of Eastern Star serving as a Worthy Matron. Juanita Perkins served her Lord, her church, her family and her community. She went about quietly doing whatever she could to make life better for others. Through a period of declining health she met adversity in the same way she lived her life, with a calm assurance and grace that allowed her to accept her circumstances and with strength to endure the journey.
She enjoyed flowers, reading and spending time with family and friends. Her eyes would always brighten and her smile widen when she was able to share special times with those she treasured. Always calm and thoughtful, the example she leaves is a model for those she loved.
A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at 2:00 pm at the Laurinburg Presbyterian Church. Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and Rev. Elizabeth Forester will officiate. A visitation will follow in the fellowship hall.
Visitation will also be held at Scotia Village on Monday, Sept. 18 from 6:30-8:00 pm.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Khan Vail Perkins, a daughter Betty P. McGee of Laurinburg; a son Isaac Thomas Perkins and his wife, Connie of Rose Hill, NC.; grandchildren: Melissa M. Gleason and husband Jack of Gilbert, AZ.; Nancy M.
