Joyce G. Shelton

Joyce Goforth Shelton, 73, left her earthly home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 5, 2021.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 11:00am at the Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Joe Beane, Rev. Terry Kivett and Rev. Vanessa McIntyre officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please practice social distancing and wear a face mask or another form of face covering.

Joyce was born on November 21, 1947 in Montgomery County to her parents Ralph and Pauline Greene Goforth who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 37 years Rev. Ralph Shelton, brother-in-law Buck Bowers, and nephew Michael Goforth. She was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and served as Pastor’s wife for many years. She was an elementary school teacher in N.C. and VA. as well as the Montgomery County school systems for many years.

She is survived by her brothers, Charlie Goforth (Carol) and Marvin Goforth (Arlaine) of Troy; sister, Phyllis Bowers of Candor. Joyce had a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved dearly.
