Joyce Carolyn (Purnell) Bailey

Joyce Carolyn Bailey, 77, passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at her home.

A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel in Laurinburg, officiated by Pastor E. Norwood Tadlock. Burial will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m., prior to the service in the chapel. Due to Covid-19, we still ask that all attendees please practice social distancing when possible.

Born June 4, 1944 in Scotland County, she was a daughter of the late Chester Bryant and Willie Ruth Gaddy Purnell. She enjoyed making clothes and pillows, which adorned another hobby of beading, but her greatest pastime of all was most certainly Antiques.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children, Carl Jason Bailey of Millville, NJ, Amissa Riley of Sewell, NJ, and Charlotte Bailey of Hope Mills, NC; her siblings, Cordella Walker, Minerva Lewis, Willie Doreatha Bailey (Arger), Chester Purnell Jr. (Louise), George Purnell (Linda K.), and Linda Sue Purnell (Barb Dewael); grandchildren, Christopher J. Bailey, Darnell Bailey, Charita Brown, D’andra A. Bailey, Donte’ J. Bailey, and Nateesha L. Evans; thirteen great grandchildren, and two forthcoming;  special friend, William Fairley; and special cousin, Delores Henegan.
