With profound sadness, the family of Joyce Blake McIntyre announces her peaceful passing on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the age of 80, at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care in West End.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church in Candor, officiated by Pastor Rodney Holmes. The family will receive friends from 10:15 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born May 2, 1944, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter to Woodrow and Dorthy Blake of the Pekin community of Montgomery County. One of eight siblings, she devoted her life to her family. After graduation from high school, Joyce married the love of her life, George McIntyre, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage. Together, they built a life with their son, Todd, and dedicated themselves to serving their community while managing multiple businesses, including a convenient store and 109 Body Shop.
Joyce’s love for her family was matched by her unwavering faith, which guided her throughout her life. She was a longtime member of Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church and found great comfort in her spiritual devotion. She was blessed with a strong will and obstinance but had a deep love for animals, cherishing many over the years - most recently, her faithful companion, JoJo.
Beyond her devotion to family and faith, Joyce found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a natural talent for tending to her flowers, creating a vibrant and welcoming yard that reflected her warmth and care. She also had a generous heart, always willing to lend a hand to those in need, whether through quiet acts of kindness or offering encouragement when it was needed most.
She is survived by her brother, Douglas Blake (Nancy) of Pekin; sisters, Dernona Puckett (Riley) of Rockingham, Onetia Blake Shoafe (M.H.) of Pekin, and Wanda Hicks (Dan) of Clayton; her beloved aunt, Lois Thompson of Mt. Gilead; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, husband and son, Joyce was preceded in death by her brothers Clemeth Blake, Jodie Blake and Roger Blake. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at FirstHealth Hospice House of Moore County, for their kindness and care during Joyce’s final days and to her caregiver during the past several months, Miranda “Leanne” Hicks.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s honor may be made to FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care, 251 Campground Rd., West End, NC 27376 or Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church, 5159 Pekin Rd., Candor, NC 27229.
