Josephine Parrish (Jo) Bond

Bravely fighting cancer until the very end, Josephine Parrish Bond passed from this life on February 17, 2016 at Scottish Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Laurinburg, NC. She was 68 years old.
Known by almost everyone who knew her as Jo or Miss Jo, she was born on August 2, 1947 and grew us as a farmer's daughter and only child in rural South Central Virginia. Her parents, Bennie and Ethel, passed on their strong work ethics to her and she worked hard all of her life. For the better part of almost 30 years, she worked as a waitress at Champs in Laurinburg, until retring recently. Quoting one daughter in reference to her many years of service at Champs, "Mama often said that while she couldn't always remember a customer's name, she always remembered what they wanted to eat and drink."
She was preceded in death by her parent, Bennie Parrish and Ethel Crowder Parrish, of South Hill, VA and an infant daughter, Vickie Jo Winstead.
Her spirit will carry on through the lives of her four daughters; Linda Thomas and her husband, Warren of Baskerville, VA; Diane Trovato and her fiancé, Mathias Krebs of Virginia Beach, VA; Kimberly Zuniga and her husband, David of Laurinburg, NC; and Stephanie Norton and her wife Sherry of Thomasville, NC. Also precious to Miss Jo are her 7 treasured grandchildren, Nikki, Jessica, Nico, Dominic, Alexis, Aaliyah, and Kairi.
She also leaves behind many friends, too numerous to name but among some of those most treasured are Jim and Celene Kitzmiller, Paul Pate, Ron Riggins and his entire family as well as Jackie, and Miss Betty.
Miss Jo loved to read and was an avid collector of books and movies. She loved crossword puzzles and trivia games. Beating cancer more than once, she was known for being a fighter. Each and every time, she fought and worked though the pain without complaining. She was fiercely independent and prided herself on being able to get things done without having to ask for help.
Special thanks (from her daughter, Linda) goes out to Jim and Celene Kitzmiller, whose help was invaluable. Also thanks for Paul Pate for his assistance as well. Mom loved you all dearly.
Miss Jo loved life. Remember her worm smile, her seemingly endless energy, and her undying love for her family and friends. At her request, there will be a private event for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The cancer grew and spread around, but don't despair or cry,
For God has laid my body down and taken me on high.
His love surrounds me every day, forever and for all,
And in that love I am pain free, and I am walking tall.
For cancer is a time bound thing, that really hurts it's true,
But I'm now in eternity, and looking down on you.
I have no pain, it has no hold, on spirits now like me,
I'm in the arms of Jesus, and he has set me free.
