Joseph McCallum Nichols, 20, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and the Rev. Elizabeth Forester.
He is survived by his parents, Dean and Candy Nichols of Laurinburg; his brother, Charles (Melanie) Nichols of Aberdeen; his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Faye Nichols of Laurinburg; his maternal grandmother, Elaine McCallum of Laurinburg. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and namesake, Joseph Brown McCallum.
Born April 11, 1991 in Laurinburg, he was a 2009 graduate of Marlboro Academy. Joseph loved people, animals, golf, music, history and debating politics. As one friend described him: "He could talk the bark off of a tree."
He was also known as someone who took care of others, as one stated: "He took care of everybody's problems."

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
