Mr. Joseph Alex Farmer, 91, of 206 Hector McNeill Road, died Friday, October 27, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM in Montpelier Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Johns officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his daughter Lydia Hicks and husband Henry of Raeford; a son Joseph "Joe" Alex Farmer, of the home; a daughter-in-law, Deborah E. Farmer of Whispering Pines; four grandchildren, Way Hicks, McKenzie Hicks and Andrew Hicks all of Raeford and D. J. Farmer of Whispering Pines; three nieces and three nephews also survive him.
Born March 28, 1909 in Scotland County, he was the son of the late Joseph Thomas and Mary Ann Parrish Farmer. His wife Geneva McKenzie Farmer and son David Farmer preceded him in death.
A member of Montpelier Presbyterian Church, Alex was a former brakeman with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, after which he owned and operated the Hickory Grove Service Station. He went on to become an inspector of family housing with the civil service at Fort Bragg retiring after nineteen years of service. He was a member of the Golden "K".
