John H. Ritchie

John H. Ritchie, 70, of Troy passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at First Wesleyan Church in Troy, officiated by Dr. Ed Lindsey.

Born June 25, 1952, in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Harold and Margie Phaff Ritchie. John loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and especially being a pawpaw to Beau, Lee, and Theo. He treasured time hunting, fishing, and playing golf with Joseph and Jacob. He was always eager to help his family with yard work and home projects. He looked forward to family beach week and spent much time finding the “perfect” beach house. He enjoyed hiking the trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was a time of quiet and appreciation for God’s handiwork.

John was a member of the First Wesleyan Church, previous owner of Greenthumb Nursey, a graduate of West Montgomery High School and North Carolina State University.

Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rocha Lima, the medical staff, and nurses in the chemo pod at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital and FirstHealth Hospice.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sue Ritchie of the home; sons, Joseph Ritchie (Louise) and Jacob Ritchie (Jenna); sister, Ann Roberts (Fred); niece, Cathy Brown (Kyle); nephew, Chris Roberts (Kim); brother-in-law, Mike Kelly; and grandsons, Beau, Lee, and Theo.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at First Wesleyan Church from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
