John Murdock McLaurin, 88, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neal Carter and the Rev. Elizabeth Forester.
He is survived by two sons, J. Murdock McLaurin, Jr. and Allen McLaurin and wife, Jane of Laurinburg; a daughter, Debbie McLaurin Coston of Roswell, GA; a sister, Julia Oliver and husband, Lou of Rock Hill, SC; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine King McLaurin on April 29, 1995.
John was born December 6, 1920 in Jakin, GA, a son of the late Henry and Mamie Mosley McLaurin. He served as a field artillery liaison pilot in Italy in World War II and later graduated from the University of Florida. For many years he was the farm manager for Z. V. Pate, Inc. He also served on the local Soil and Water Conservation District Committee, was chairman of the local ASCS committee, member of the Farm Home Administration committee, and the State Flue-cured Tobacco Advisory Committee.
An active member of the Scotland County community, John was a past chairman of Hospice of Scotland County, past chairman of the Scotland Memorial Hospital Board, past chairman of the Scotland County Board of Education, former member of the Scotland County Social Services board, and was an Elder at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Morris Morgan Room at Scotia Village.
