John Gilbert Kennedy

John Gilbert Kennedy, 54, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022 at his home.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 12, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Southside Cemetery in Troy, officiated by Rev. Jim Hunsucker. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, face masks are recommended and please practice social distancing.

Born April 30, 1968, in Macon County, IL, he was a son of the late John and O. Sharon Kennedy. John was a US Army veteran and served in Desert Storm.  John had worked for Southern Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer, served as a deputy for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and worked for the TSA in Greensboro.

He is survived by his son, Damon G. Kennedy; daughter, Hunter Tristan Ellis (Tyler); former wife, Winnie Kennedy; sisters, Sharon Kennedy Cole (Dale), and Tammy Kennedy Walker (Brad); brother, Michael Kennedy (Michelle); mother-in-law, Peggy Harris; granddaughter, Bailey Angeline Ellis; nieces, Jessica Cole, and Chelsee Lynn Burdine; nephews, Joshua Burdine (Kelsey), Liam Burdine, and Dawson Burdine. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Howard Bud Harris.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service.
