John Arnold (Jack) Sopher, 87, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at his home.
A memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Boykin United Methodist church officiated by the Revs. Becky Forrest and William Wicker.
His is survived by his loving wife, Valena Smith Sopher; his sisters, Anna Gene Reffett, Harryette Murray, and Marzene Iacuessa; his brothers, Larry Gardener and Dean Sopher; his daughters, Donna Jean Newell, Shirley Ray Loger, Johnette Jacobs, and Jackie Balkcum; his sons, John Sopher, Jr. and Chris Sopher; also numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born April 20, 1925 in Roswell, Idaho, he was a son of the late Clyde and Bernice Lewis Sopher. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during World war II.
He retired from Piedmont Natural Gas in Charlotte and moved to Bennettsville where he raised acres of flowers on the family farm that were sold at the flea market in Bennettsville. He was also a member of Boykin United Methodist Church.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Donald Sopher and his sister, Barbara Jean McLauchlin.
