John Wilson (Jack) Jones, Jr

John Wilson "Jack" Jones, Jr., 88, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Born September 26, 1925 in Laurinburg, he was a son of the late John W. Jones and Stella Baucom Jones. He was married to Gladys Caddell Jones for 60 years until her death in 2010.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Jones and wife, Martha of Kernersville, and John Jones and his wife, Candice of Laurinburg; his sister, Stella Jones D'Amico; six grandchildren, Shaw Lewis, III (Lyn), Timothy Jones, Nathan Jones, Christopher Jones, Lori Williams (Josh), and Brandi Jones; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Lewis, Jack Lewis, and Noah Jones. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Jones Lewis and his sisters, Frances Jones Moore and Margaret Jones Hewins.

Jack graduated from Laurinburg High School and began working for "The Laurinburg Exchange" in 1942. He then entered the US Navy in World War II where he served aboard the aircraft carrier, "Shangri-La," and later graduated from Wake Forest University in 1949. He went into the printing business , Service Printing Co., until his retirement in 1988. He enjoyed family and friends and loved Laurinburg and Scotland County. In retirement he enjoyed golf, reading, and daily walks with Gladys.

After the death of Gladys, Jack enjoyed morning walks with his son, John, and great conversations at "Stubbs Daycare" in the afternoon. Jack loved people and showed that love through his many "random acts of kindness" we have all experienced. He will be greatly missed.

Jack was also a lifetime member and former deacon at the First Baptist Church, and an active member of the Masonic Lodge, the Lions Club, and the American Legion.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
