Mr. John Edward Butler, 85, formerly of Charlotte died Wednesday, July 18, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Morris Morgan Room of Scotia Village officiated by the Revs. Gus Feathers and Robert Dendy.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Okell Butler; two sons, the Rev. Craig Butler and wife, Caroline of Marietta, OH; Richard "Rick" Butler of Holly Springs; a daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Allen and husband, David of Longwood, FL; a brother, William C. Butler of California; four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Born November 24, 1921 in Chicago, he was a son of the late Craig D. and Glenna Elliott Butler. Mr. Butler was employed as distribution center manager with Oscar Mayer in Charlotte, employed with Wheaton Engineering, and was past president of UBC Distributors.
He was a Deacon, Elder, Sunday school teacher, and former president of the Men of the Church, and led a fund drive for Amity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. He was also active in Rotary and Habitat for Humanity.

Visitation will follow the service at Scotia Village.
