Joel Thomas "Joe' Nunnally, 59, of 11601 Hooper Drive died Suddenly Friday, May 29, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Revs. Quinton Covington and Jim Helton. Burial with Police honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Barrentine Nunnally; a daughter, Cindy Allen and husband, Mike of Holly Springs; a brother, Monroe Nunnally of Abilene, TX; a sister, Glenda Aiken of Myrtle Beach; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Alley of Holly Springs. He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Nunnally and a sister, Carolyn N. Godwin.
Born August 13, 1949 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late Lloyd Monroe and Virginia Honeycutt Nunnally. Follow graduation from Laurinburg High School, Joe served in the US Air Force and later with the Scotland County Sheriff's Department and Laurinburg Police Department. Afterwards, he worked with Carolmet for 25 years.
He received an associates degree of applied science in criminal justice from Richmond Technical Community College and for the past 7 years he has served with the Southern Pines Police Department, most recently as a Master Patrol Officer. He was also an avid sky diver and instructor at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
