Joe Bob McDougald, a faithful companion of the McDougald family died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 following a two-week long illness. His two-legged, four and a half year old sister, Lizi, broke down and cried this morning upon hearing the news.
It was in July 1996 that a furry little puppy appeared at their home and was befriended by two other four-legged members of the household, Elijah and Fiona. In his early years he was the sleeping companion of his two-legged sister, Hannah. Joe Bob was a protective companion, always remaining skeptical of newcomers until he was assured they were friendly.
Joe Bob's biological parentage was uncertain, but he was a blend of Chow, Collie, German Shepherd, and who knows what else. He was truly an All-American dog.
In 2004 he met his infant two-legged sister, Elizabeth, for the first time and instantly sensed that his job was to protect her. In 2006 Elizabeth (Lizi) moved in with the McDougalds and Joe Bob became her four-legged protector. He enjoyed trips to the mountains with his family as well as roaming freely in the Scotland County countryside – especially going "swamping" during hot weather.
Joe Bob is survived by his parents, Lynn and Beacham McDougald; his two-legged sisters, Hannah and Elizabeth (Lizi); his two-legged brother, Michael; his four-legged brothers, Moses, J. R., and Pepper; his four-legged feline brother, Kitty Bob; and four-legged feline sister, Calli. He was preceded in death by his four-legged siblings, Elijah, Fiona, and Otis.
Memorials may be made to the Scotland County Humane Society, 1411 West Blvd., Laurinburg, NC 28352
