Joe Douglas Hurley, of Montgomery County, North Carolina, passed away at his residence on September 4, 2026 at the age of 93.

A visitation will be held on Monday, September 7, 2026, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 412 Bell St, Troy, North Carolina. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Daniel Luther. Interment will take place at Callicutt Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery, 1100 Horseshoe Bend Road, Troy, North Carolina.

He was born on January 9, 1933, in Montgomery County and was a son of the late Pearly Sylvester Hurley and Mary Beane Hurley.

Joe worked for many years as an upholsterer in the furniture industry, a career that reflected dedication and skill. Outside of work, he was an avid bird hunter who enjoyed spending time outdoors. He especially loved his family and treasured the time he shared with them. A longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, he remained connected to his church community through the years.

He is survived by his children, Doug Hurley and his wife, Debbie, of Raleigh; and by Harold Hurley and his wife, Yvonne, along with Darrell Hurley and his wife, Pam, all of Troy; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Helen Rose Harvell Hurley, and by his daughter, Kathy Lowder.
