Jay Weatherman, 82, died Saturday, April12, 2014.
Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by his partner, Carolyn Walters; his children, Penny Emery of Seneca, SC, Warren Weatherman of Fair Play, SC, Sarah Weatherman of Laurel Hill, and his son-at-heart, Bruce Walters of Raleigh; his grandchildren, Rachel Orzechowski and husband, Andy of Fredericksburg. VA, Zachary Emery of New York, and Nicole Weatherman of Greenville, SC; his great-grandchildren, Laura, Allana, and Christopher Orzechowski, and Brooklyn Emery; his family-at-heart, Cam and Pat Locklear, Agnes and Fred Blevins, Maxine and Charles Allen, and Christine and William Locklear and Ashley Strickland, and Grayson Locklear; and special friends; Margarette Barber, Barbara Garner, Sammie K. Sweatt, Judy Bowen and his Wal-Mart family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred Weatherman and Ralph Pittman, and his sisters, Neva Pittman Jarvis and Nettie Faye Weatherman Wallen.
Born in Bear Creek, NC on December 9, 1931, he was a son of the late Cumley M. and Retta Sarah English Weatherman. In his high school years his family moved to Oak Ridge, TN. He later graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, and he served with the US Army during the Korean conflict.
He was a store and advertising manager for Montgomery Ward for 25 years. He later worked at Wal-Mart as an assistant manager and sales associate for 22 years.
He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church but was a member of Stewartsville Baptist Church.
Jay enjoyed golf and television, but his favorite pastime was eating.
