Janie Holt McCaskill, 74, of Troy passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Biscoe, officiated by Pastor Mike Greene. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born March 30, 1950, in Montgomery County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph McNally and Frances Spivey Holt. Janie's professional life was as impactful as her personal life. She dedicated over three decades to Southeastern Regional Mental Health, where she worked with passion and care until her retirement. Yet, her desire to serve others was so strong that she returned to the workforce the very next day, taking on a new role with the NC Department of Corrections for an additional seven years. Her colleagues will remember her as a dedicated and compassionate professional who always went above and beyond for those in her care.
Outside of work, Janie's interests were a reflection of her zest for life and love for her family. She relished in the simple pleasures of spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Janie found joy in shopping, not just for herself, but as a way to bring happiness to those she loved. Her hands were rarely still, as she was an avid cross-stitcher, creating intricate designs that will serve as lasting memories of her talent and patience.
Janie was equally passionate about the great outdoors, often escaping to the beach or the mountains to recharge and revel in nature's beauty. Her adventurous spirit also took her traveling, exploring new places, and creating unforgettable memories with her family and friends.
Janie is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Claude Alex McCaskill, Jr., of the home; daughters, Angie Locklear (Albert) of Maxton, and Melissa Tolar (Greg) of Carthage; sons, Walker McCoy (Julie) and Chris McCoy (Brooke), both of Laurinburg, and Jim McCoy of Columbia SC; sister, Barbara Bruton of Albemarle; brother, Larry Holt of Hamlet; grandchildren, Rebecca, Aaron, Eli, Grant, Owen, Lucas, Austin, Nicholas, and Nathan; and great-grandchild, Cason.
The family would like to thank Annie Thomas, Janie’s faithful caretaker and Tillery Compassionate Hospice.
