James Vannoy "Van" Mcintosh

October 13, 1942 — November 21, 2018

James Vannoy McIntosh, of Troy, known as “Van,” 76, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

The service will be held Sunday, November 25, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Troy with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church and other times at the daughter’s residence at 445 Warner Rd., Troy.  Interment will follow the service at Southside Cemetery, Troy, NC.

Van was born on October 13, 1942 to James Gilbert and Pauline Nelson McIntosh in Fayetteville, NC.  He grew up in Atlantic, NC.  Van’s youth was filled with sports, especially baseball, in which he excelled as a local star.  After graduating from Atlantic High School, Van attended Mars Hill College briefly before transferring to East Carolina where he graduated in 1965 with a degree in industrial arts education.  Later that year, Van moved to Montgomery County and began teaching at West Montgomery High School.  After a couple of years, Van began a career in the mobile home industry from which he retired.

Van was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy, NC.  He was a talented guitarist and loved all kinds of music and instruments.  Other interests included golf, target shooting, and wood carving.

Van is predeceased by his parents and one sister, Linda Cheryl McIntosh.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruth McLeod McIntosh of the home; one daughter, Lane Morgan and husband, Terry of Troy; two granddaughters, Emma Caviness and husband, Andy of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Allie Morgan of Troy.
