James Earl Messer, 66, died Saturday, December 26, 2009.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Laurinburg Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Ford Messer; four sons, James Allen Messer of Arcadia, FL, Charles Andrew Messer of Lafayette, IN, Benjamin Patrick Messer and Nathan Samuel Messer of Woundsocket, RI; two daughters, Gabriella Roseanne Byrd of Lake Placid, FL and Sarah Catherine Brumley of Georgetown, SC; a brother, John Paul Messer of Mississippi; a sister, Kath McGarry of Clewiston, FL; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Born February 4, 1943 in Arcadia, FL he was a son of the late Forrest and Edith Walker Messer. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the US Army, where he was also a truck driver. James enjoyed being active in church and being outside where he felt closest to Jesus. He was also an avid fisherman, gardener, and carpenter.
He was also a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association and worked diligently with the Hope and Christ Food Pantry.
