James Alvin (Jim) Coulter

James Alvin "Jim" Coulter, 71, passed away Friday, March 15, at his home.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Stewartsville Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Marshall. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Wright Coulter; his sons, James Coulter, Jr. and wife, Dina of Laurinburg and David Coulter and wife, Gina of Palm City, FL; his daughters, Tammy C. Hatchell and husband Ricky of Stokesdale and Susan Naylor and husband Mike of Wilmington; his mother, Ida Lucille Coulter of Laurinburg; his brothers, Danny Coulter of Laurinburg and Ronnie Coulter of Middletown, IN; his sisters, Mojie Chiamis and Joyce Harris of FL, Marilyn Roughton of Hamlet and Joanne Stutts of LA; 10 grandchildren, Cortney Coulter, Brittney Coulter, Joshua Hatchell, Jacob Hatchell, Julianne Coulter, Caleb Hatchell, Brody Naylor, Joey Coulter, Michael Naylor, and Jenna Naylor. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Coulter and his sister, Jackie Miller.

Born February 26, 1942 in Anderson, Indiana, Jim served with the US Army from 1959-62 and met his wife of 52 years while stationed at Fort Bragg. He later served 38 years as a supervisor for Johns-Manville.

He was an active member and a Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church where he also served missions and on the New Hope Baptist Builders, a division of the NC Baptist Disaster Relief. Jim enjoyed fishing trips with his friends, spending time with his family and grandchildren, traveling, building and wood working.

Memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church building fund, 11480 Hasty Rd., Laurinburg, NC 28352 or Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28353.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
