Mr. James Walter 'Jimmy' Hollis, 81, of 710 McLean Street died Wednesday, December 30, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Lawrence B. Coleman. A graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kellam Garrison Hollis; two sons, Jim Hollis of Columbia, SC and Dr. Tom Hollis of Savannah, GA; a daughter, Carolyn Dickens of Raleigh; three sisters, Frances Wilson of Red Springs, Margaret Kissinger of Hayes, VA, and Ann Jenkins of Portland, OR; 7 grandchildren.
Born May 18, 1917 in New Hanover County, he was a son of the late J. Walter and Bessie Trollinger Hollis. He was a graduate of NCSU and attended MIT, later working as a mechanical engineer for W. E. Matthews and later Snowden, Jordan, and McVicker. Jimmy also served as the general secretary for Sunday school at the First Baptist Church for over 40 years, and was an active member of the Laurinburg Rotary Club. He was a US Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in England.

The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
