James Joseph Garby, Jr.

James Joseph Garby, Jr., age 42, passed away Monday, April 24, 2023 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service and Crematorium Chapel, officiated by Pastor Faye Coates and Rev. Bob Garby.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 – 2:00 pm, prior to the service.

Born on May 7, 1980, in Cook County, Illinois, he is the son of James Joseph Garby, Sr., and step-mother, Alice Garby of Maxton and the late Shirley Tapley Garby.

James was known for his humor, generosity, and friendliness.  He was an independent business owner.  His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for bass fishing and camping.  Always up for a laugh, James was known for his infectious humor and fondness for joking, bringing smiles to the faces of those around him.  One of James' favorite pastimes was experimenting with new fried foods, a hobby that often brought his family and friends together for memorable meals and gatherings. James is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Libby Garby of the home; his three sons, Damarius Fairley, Egypt McLaughlin, and Timmothy McLaughlin all of Laurinburg; step-children, Darean Parker of Fayetteville, and Deneka Parker, Shamekia Parker, and Derrick Parker all of Laurinburg; his brother, William Raney of Indiana; sisters, Julie Like and Judy Butler of Indiana, and Theresa Ambrose (Todd) of Toledo, Ohio; Antonio Robinson, who he raised him like a son; nine grandchildren; and was known as a grandfather to many in the community.
