Mr. James Hugh Ellis, 91, of 2200 Elm Ave., Laurinburg, NC, died at Scotia Village on March 04, 2009.
Mr. Ellis was born in Lucama, North Carolina on August 15, 1917. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, class of 1938 and served in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot during World War II, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Ellis worked for many years in the mid-west for Air Products, Inc. and retired as the co-owner of Barnes Motor and Parts Stores.
Preceding Mr. Ellis in death were his wife of 59 years, Audrey Shaughnessy Ellis, son James H. Ellis II, daughters Martha G. Kirk and Melissa D. Jozwiak. Mr. Ellis is survived by his daughter-in-law Marcia B. Ellis, his 2 sons-in-law Peter Kirk and Jeff Jozwiak, 6 grandchildren; Charity, Kirsten, John, Evin, Alex and Sara; 3 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday March 10th at 2:30pm at Scotia Village Retirement Community in the Morris Morgan room. The service will be officiated by Father William Oldland from St. David's Episcopal Church in Cheraw, SC.
