James "Jim" Bruton Allen, Jr.

James Bruton Allen Jr. (Jim), 88, of Troy, passed away peacefully Thanksgiving morning surrounded by his family.  Jim was born May 28, 1934 to James and Madeline Allen. He spent his early years of education in Troy before graduating from Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA.  He then went on to attend and graduate from his beloved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sissie; his sister, Madeline Allen; three children, Bruton Allen (Jean), Beth Pierce (Tom), Madeline (Lin) Amos (Michael); seven grandchildren, Allie Feldbush (Luke), Daniel Allen (Lydia), Betsy Pierce (Michael Kale), Ellen Amos, Thomas Allen (Katie), Mike Amos, and JB Amos (Jamie); and two great grandchildren, Maddie Allen and Naomi Allen.  Jim also enjoyed close ties to his many in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jim spent his life supporting the community he loved by actively serving the First Baptist Church of Troy, coaching Little League for 32 years, supporting scouts, and participating in the Rotary Club, where he had perfect attendance.  In addition, Jim severed on several committee boards.  He also worked diligently in the printing industry for over 50 years, where his customers became close friends. Jim was always a man of his word.  He and Sissie enjoyed an active social life and cherished their friends throughout the community.

Jim loved his UNC Tarheels, as a lifetime Rams Club member, the St. Louis Cardinals, playing golf, eating oysters, learning new things, telling lengthy stories, and music.  Family was the most important aspect of Jim’s life and he called his family members frequently just to “check in.”  Jim was the rock of his family, supporting and encouraging those he loved to be full of Joy.  We know he will be forever singing his favorite Old Hymns and cheering on his Tarheels.  The family would like to sincerely thank Elaine Garner for her support for the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2022 at First Baptist Church Troy, officiated by Dr. Jeff Hartman. “Lord make us thankful for these and all other blessings.  In Christ name we pray. Amen.”
