James Herman Benton, Jr., 74, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2014 at Morrison Manor.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. J. W. Williams.
Hs is survived by his wife, Irene Chrisco Benton; his son, Jim Benton(Kathryn) of Kannapolis; his daughter, Ann B. Gibson of Galesburg, IL; his sister, Marianne Bardell (Hank) of Pinehurst; his grandchildren, Chase Gibson, Brett Gibson, Tanner Benton, Laurel Benton, and Sam Benton.
Born May 13, 1940 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late James Herman and Elizabeth Tatum Benton. He was a football player at Laurinburg High School and later at Mars Hill College, and was an avid fan of the Scotland High School Fighting Scots and the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Herman served 42 years as the supervisor of waste treatment and the steam plant for J. P. Stevens.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
