Jacqueline Elizabeth McLeod Doubles died at her Scotia Village home on Monday, November 7, 2022. After defeating the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis for most of her life, she finally succumbed to congestive heart failure.
She was born on March 29, 1932, in Lillington, NC to the late John and Mabel Blake McLeod.
Jacque was a loving wife and mother, who treasured her surviving husband, Malcolm Carroll, and her children, Malcolm McLeod (Vaso) and Mary Blake (Will), as well as her grandchildren, Blake (Brad), Callie, Zoe, Alex, and Jordan. Till her passing she continued to grieve the 2010 death of her son John Carroll (Johnnie).
A graduate of Coker College, she was a beloved licensed family counselor and worked a number of years with the South Carolina Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. She was SC State Counselor of the Year in 1989 and one of the three finalists that year for the Counselor of the Year Award presented by the National Commission.
Jacque’s interests were varied. She was a charter member of both Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Lebanon, VA, and Trinity Presbyterian Church, Laurinburg, NC. She was elected a Ruling Elder in both Trinity and First Presbyterian Church, Hartsville, SC. A lover of music, she sang in the choirs of all three churches. Art was one of her passions, but although many liked and purchased her work, in her modest way she never thought of herself as an artist. She also enjoyed bridge, partnering amicably with her husband.
A Memorial Service will be held at Scotia Village at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, with a Celebration of Life Service to be scheduled in December at First Presbyterian Church, Hartsville, SC.
Memorials may be made to the Music Funds at either First Presbyterian Church, 213 W Home Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550 or Laurinburg Presbyterian Church, 600 W Church St, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or to the Santee Presbyterian Church (John Carroll Doubles Memorial Garden), 306 Bradford Blvd, Santee, SC 29142.
