Mr. J. C. Tyson, 78, of 1301 Charles Dr. died Thursday, March 4, at Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. at Cross Creek Cemetery in Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Alene Bullard Tyson; a son, Michael A. Tyson of Lumberton; a daughter, Susan Gayle Tyson of Fayetteville; two brothers, Herb Tyson of Tidewater, VA and Dan Tyson of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Jonathan Tyson of Chapel Hill and Adam Tyson of Clayton.
Born July 27, 1925 in Bladen County, he was a son of the late Herbert L. and Sudie Johnson Tyson.
J. C. was a US Marines veteran of World War II and later served as a patrolman with the NC Highway Patrol. He began with the Laurinburg Post Office in 1953 and became Postmaster in 1966, a position he held until retiring in 1980. He then was a sales agent for Hasty Realty.
J. C. was also active in the American Legion Baseball where he served twice as the state chairman. In 1983 he was named to the American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
