Mr. J. D. Thompson, 77, died Friday, September 30, at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia McLaurin Thompson; a daughter, Sue Ivey of Laurinburg; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Gay Hamilton of Troy, Judy gay Owens of Memphis, and Susan Gay Bailey of Atlanta; two stepsons, Tommy Gay of Troy and Barry gay of Raleigh; two brothers, Bobby Lee Thompson of Dillon, SC and Linwood Thompson of Florence, SC; a sister, Gladys Barfield of Dillon, SC; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Alvia, James, Mack and Chesley and by a sister, Grace Sealer.
Born May 8, 1927 in Dillon, he was a son of the late Don Devon Thompson and Dannie Hayes Thompson. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in France and Germany. For 50 years he was employed by Springs Mills, retiring as a supply room supervisor. J. D. enjoyed the beach, fishing, and remodeling homes and cabins.
The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.n. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.
