Irene Corbett Burgess passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Morrison Manor.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Jeffries. Visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
She is survived by her husband, Algy Rose (Al) Burgess; her daughter, Marilyn Burgess Wright and her husband, Steve, of Boone; two beloved granddaughters, Sarah Wright Jelinski and Katherine Wright Glick, and her great grandsons, Mason Jelinski and Camerin Glick.
A native of Sampson County, she was the daughter of the late Walter James and Flora Hudson Corbett. She was a former Registered Nurse and was secretary and treasurer of Burgess-Corbett Motors for 34 years. An active member of the First United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Edwin Gibson JOY Sunday School Class, the Chancel Choir, and the United Methodist Women Circle #6. She was also a member of the Pilot Club of Laurinburg and the Scotch Gardeners Club.
