Horace Thomas Myers, 80, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church officiated by The Revs. Don Lee Harris, Ralph Brown, and Roy McCook. Visitation will follow in the Nettie Hammond Fellowship Hall.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Penny Myers; two daughters, Penny Myers Craner (Jesse) of Laurinburg and Beth Myers Ferguson (Johnny) of Southern Pines; one son, George Thomas Myers of the home; two grandsons, Derrick Thomas Craner (Christy) and Zachary Stephen Ferguson; one sister, Nelma Myers McLeod of Norman.
Born July 1, 1929 in Richmond County, he was a son of the late George Benson and Sally Butler Myers. He moved to Laurinburg in 1943 where he later served two terms on the Scotland County Board of Education and several terms on the Morehead Committee for the University of North Carolina. A graduate of Laurinburg High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he worked with his father and brother in a logging a sawmill business, G. B. Myers and Sons. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Laurinburg Kiwanis Club. He served in the US Army from 1952-54.
