Horace Bryant Gibson, 80, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Presbyterian Church in the Pine officiated by the Rev. Dr. Gene Miller. Burial will follow in the family cemetery.
He is survived by his sons, Larry Gibson (Elizabeth) of Matthews and Garry Gibson (Cindy) of Nashville, NC; his sister, Johnsie Burton (Frank) of Laurinburg; his grandchildren, Autumn Marie Graham, Michael Dale Kimbrell (Jaclyn), Amanda Gibson Coppedge (Lee) and Erin Gibson Parks (Taylor), and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Ann Gibson.
Born November 15, 1931 in Scotland County, he was a son of the late John P. and Ruth Markham Gibson and widower of the late Connie Merritt Gibson.
Horace was always proud to say that he served 21 years, 4 months, and 17 days in the US Air Force, serving in both Korea and Vietnam. During his career he was also stationed in Texas, Alabama, and South Carolina. Before entering the service he served with Scotland Oil Company and upon his honorable discharge he once again served with Scotland Oil and later Quality Oil. As his sons, Larry and Garry recalled, he always placed his love and dedication toward his family, first.
Memorials made be made to the church in the Pines, PO Box 69, Laurel Hill, NC 28351 or the Camp Royall, c/o Autism Society of NC, 505 Oberlin Rd., Suite 230, Raleigh, NC 27605 for his granddaughter Autumn Graham.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
