Mr. Herbert McKeithan, Jr., 77, of 712 King Street, died Saturday, December 21, 2005, at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by the Rev. Dr. Neil Carter and Rev. Elizabeth Forester. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mac McKeithan, Charles McKeithan, Clay McKeithan, Ray McKeithan, Neil Weber, Steve Urie, and Lee Richardson.

He is survived by his wife nd best friend of 53 years; Norma Leigh Holt McKeithan; four sons, Herbert "Mac" McKeithan, III and wife, Becky, Charles McKeithan and wife, Rosemary of Laurinburg, Ray McKeithan and wife, Robin of Washington, NC, and Clay McKeithan of Nashville, TN; a daughter, Laura Beth Urie and husband, Steve of Laurinburg. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Maggie Breeden, Mollie and Mary Caitlin McKeithan, Bess and Anna Urie, Jimmy Moore, Cody and Charlie McKeithan, John McKeithan, Holt and Ben McKeithan, Neilee Weber, Audren and Lee Richardson, and one great-grandchild, Carleigh Breeden.

Mr. McKeithan was a graduate and stauch supporter of UNC-Chapel Hill. He was the owner of Family Pharmacy and one-time partner of Community Drug and Medical Village Pharmacy.

He was a devoted servant. Mr. McKeithan was a long-time chairman of the Scotland County Board of Education. During his chairmanship he helped guide the schools through integration and was actively involved in the building of Pate Stadium.
Being a Mason and Shriner, Mr. McKeithan was active in civic affairs and the welfare of his community. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time with his family. He was a proud descendent of the Scottish settlers to the Cape Fear region.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
