Grady Ennis Gardner, Jr., 77, died Friday, April 6, 2012.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Rev. Elizabeth Forester. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his sons, Grady E. Gardner, III (Lisa) of Delray Beach, FL and James P. Gardner of Laurinburg; his daughter, Anne Marie Freeman (Tony) of Raleigh; his sister, Jane C. Howell of Durham; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Harrison, and Travis.
Grady attended NC State University and Campbell University and also served in the US Army in intelligence; serving in Alaska and Massachusetts. He was an engineer for Ingraham Clock Company and was instrumental in starting Able Cable, Laurinburg's first cable television, which later became Community Antenna. He was manager for 30 years.
Grady played an important role in advancing the emergency communications technology for the Scotland County Emergency Management Systems, was the emergency coordinator of Scotland County Amateur Radio Society, was an Eagle Scout and a former Scoutmaster, was past president of the Indian Museum of the Carolinas, and a special volunteer for the Scotland County Sheriff's Dept.
