Georgia Bonus Adams, 88, of Troy passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Georgia was born and raised in Walworth, Wisconsin where she was an award-winning singer and golfer, even earning an invitation to join the LPGA. She opted instead to pursue a degree in education and her family relocated to Miami, Florida. She enrolled at the University of Miami, where she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Adams. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Education, her Master of Science in Education and her Doctorate of Education. She also birthed and raised three children during this time. Following completion of the Doctorate in 1974, Georgia was recruited by the Montgomery County Schools to serve as the Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Children. She served the county in that capacity for 23 years, receiving numerous honors and accolades. She impacted hundreds of children, parents, teachers and administrators during her service. She also served as an Adjunct Professor for UNCC, providing training for teachers.
In addition to singing with her rich and pure alto voice in the choir of Trinity United Methodist Church, Georgia was active in the local community theater, performing in 18 different productions, including musicals, comedies and dramatic productions. She was a gifted knitter and cross-stitcher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughters, Lynn Adams and Julia Adams, son, Billy (Liz) Adams; 5 grandchildren, Caleb (Kassie) Rushing, Samantha (Josh) Talley, Cheyenne Adams, Blayni Adams, and Valinor Adams. She doted on her 4 great-grandchildren, Harper Talley, Avett Talley, Kennedy Rushing and Skylyn Cretella, all of Troy, NC.
No funeral will be held at her request. A celebration of her life will be announced.
Georgia specifically requested NO FLOWERS. Instead, please make a donation to your local schools, pay off lunch debt, provide needed materials, and volunteer.
